Becoming An Electrician | State Licensing Requirements

Electrical Exam Preparation

well hey everybody welcome to another
episode here
from electrical code academy
incorporated my name is paul abernathy
your host in today's episode
we're gonna show you a feature on our
website that
people have asked us to provide and that
was maybe you're just getting into the
industry
and you really don't know the licensing
requirements in your specific state and
obviously getting that information
together can be pretty difficult
because some states just they make it
difficult to find this information well
what we've done here
at master the nec as well as electric
code academy inc is
is put all of that together in a simple
format for you to be able to navigate
through it and understand
what the licensing requirements are in
your state now if you're just getting
into this trade again one of the more
difficult things is to really find
information it's almost like people
don't want to share information
we do we want to show you what hours are
required for your state
what are the different licenses that you
can get in your state whether or not
your
apprentice license is required to be
licensed or there's no license required
to
to be apprenticed to even get started
and many people refer to apprentice as
as helper all those type of things we
want to break down for
you and of course when it's time for you
to learn the national electrical code
we're hoping that you're going to come
to us for a resource because i've been
teaching people the national electrical
code since back in the 80s
and i have taught literally over 40 000
students
when i worked at nema traveling around
the country or it was a head of multiple
jurisdictions back in virginia
um i have spent my life teaching people
the national electrical code
and i like teaching it and i like
teaching it in a way
that people can learn it retain it and
be able to regurgitate it to others
and so that's why i created the fast
tracks program so if you have interest
in the fast track program
again go to masternec.com if you really
want to learn the nec
you want to learn it unit by unit and
you really want to pass an exam
that's the program for you but if you're
just getting into the field
you're just trying to understand what
the licensing requirements are or you've
been working for a while and you just
don't know
how many hours i need or what types of
licenses can i get in a specific state
got you covered so let's go look at our
website because we have a lot of
features
on our website it's a very simple
website but it is
done in a way that it's easy to navigate
so let's go and give it a look
and i'll show you this new feature so
again i i understand that it can be a
struggle
getting information so let me give you a
quick overview
of our website so that you can know what
you're doing when you're navigating here
right so
first things first you'll notice that
there's a download button right here
that's to get our nifty little app you
get our app for your phone
you can reach out to us at any time and
if you become a fast track student you
can even
ask us unit questions directly instantly
through the app
that's an amazing feature that's only
available in our fast tracks program
now you will notice that it's broken
down with links then they hover over the
links
so if you need to do continuing
education for example you need to get
license renewal maybe you're a
journeyman or are you a master and you
got to renew your license
no problem simply click this tab and as
you can see
you will have a clickable map or you can
click it per state if you wish and you
can go right to the state and you can
find out about your continuing education
needs
right there from the map okay now
if you want to take one of our courses
on
maybe it's our bundle which is all of
our courses
wrapped into one bundle it's the best
value out there but let's say you want
to learn grounding and bonding
or you want to do residential commercial
wiring i had a hand in writing all of
these documents
okay and they're available in the book
format but we integrate them into our
learning program and they're embedded
into our virtual program as well this
amazing courses
and we have industrial and motor
controls as well even have electricity
101 if you want to learn the core basic
fundamentals
all of that's available here uh if you
want to see a complete list of all our
courses just click
right here on the main link it'll show
you all of our courses
uh here's the exam prep course for
example if you click that and you're
really interested in learning the nec
you'll be taken to this page and here's
the video you really should watch
it really breaks our fast tracks course
now i mean fundamentally breaks down and
you get to see what you're getting for
your money
again there's a bunch of information
tells you what units are in there very
simple straightforward
but what we want to talk about today is
you're wanting to know
what are the licensing requirements in
my state how do i find out how many
hours i need
how do i get in touch with the state
administrator to ask them more questions
don't worry come over here to the more
button and you click down here you can
find out about me
you can watch some video samples most of
our video is up on youtube anyway but
you can watch some samples
but here's what you want licensing
requirements so click on licensing
requirements
and here you go now we put everything on
this page
so alabama alaska
arizona so let's just focus on alabama
so in alabama they have different
classifications they have a journeyman
electrician and they don't have a master
electrician
they have what's called an electrical
contractor which is equivalent to a
master
so those are the two electrician
licensing there but
let's say you want to reach out to the
licensing board because you have more
questions or you want to get some kind
of
downloadable resource or documents or
maybe the local rules and regulations
then we give you a link right here this
is clickable takes you
right to their website so we put it
right here now we're also going to give
you
all the requirements for licensing right
here so here's your journeyman
requirements
and here's your electrical contractor
requirements tells you the number of
hours
and everything involved in it okay now
that's not enough
then you can go right to the state
administrator's page and i'm sure that
we're going to link you
right to where you can get any
information you need or even get phone
numbers and contact information
that way it gets you started if you just
want to get more information we're
making it as easy as possible for you on
our program now
let's say you're preparing for your exam
now you you look at the hours and you're
ready
you don't want to sit and waste time
trying to read this book because again
it wasn't designed as an instruction
manual
you can't go through here and assume
what's going to be on an exam
but we've done it for you if you click
this little link right here
you'll get your information from alabama
right here
but then you can go down and read a
little bit more and watch the video
about our fast tracks program which is
fundamentally designed to
teach you the national electrical code
to help you be successful
look i put over 30 years into this i
have taught again
over 40 000 students we break this down
unit by unit by unit go over to our
youtube channel
and watch some of the videos better yet
why don't you go here and watch
this video you will learn exactly what
the fast tracks program is all about but
that's not what this video was about
right
it's about licensing so here's alabama
shows you everything that you need to
know about alabama
you can go right back up here and click
licensing again
and let's say i want to do texas okay so
i can click here
scroll down and look for texas there's
texas
right here you have all these different
licenses
in texas okay and here's the
requirements for every single one of
them
but let's say you want to go to the
state we'll see this link right here
let's go and click it
there you go takes you right to the
state page talks about electricians
everything to do with the licensing
requirement in the state
okay so that was texas
and you can get everything that you need
to know about it from
right here on our website now and if
you're ready to study
and you really want to learn this nec
and all you got to do is click this link
read the information watch the video
and get started okay that's all it takes
to be successful in this industry
is the ability to really fundamentally
understand the information
and we're giving you the resources to
get started how to do it
how to find out how many hours you need
how much in the field training you need
instant access to the actual state
information
where you're going to find resource
guides and and local rules and
regulations that are going to be on
exams
all that's available from those links
that we embed in the program
so we're excited about offering the
licensing requirements on our website
we think that you're going to get a good
experience with it if you have any
questions at all
always email us at info masterthenc.com
i want to be a resource for you by the
way if you're in our fast tracks program
we see you every wednesday night in our
live sessions where you can work through
the units
and you can come to me and ask me
questions try to figure that in a price
that's priceless until next time folks
stay safe
